Resilience is often misunderstood. Many people think it's something you're either born with or you’re not—but that’s not true. Resilience is a skill, and like any skill, it can be developed and strengthened over time.
So, what exactly is resilience? Resilience is the ability to bounce back from challenges, setbacks, and stressors. It’s not about avoiding difficulties or never feeling overwhelmed; it’s about how you respond to those moments. Resilience is not the same as "toughing it out" or pretending everything’s okay when it's not. Instead, it’s about acknowledging the difficulty, learning from it, and moving forward with greater strength and understanding.
If you feel like you "don't have resilience," don't worry. Resilience can be built, no matter where you are in life. The first step is to shift your mindset.
