What are you feeding your mind?

Updated: Apr 13, 2022

"The mind grows by what it feeds on." What have you fed your mind with in the last month?

~J. G. Holland We talk a lot about healthy nutrition for the body, but equally important is how we nourish our mind. We know that the foods we eat, the way we move our bodies and how well we manage stress all contribute positively to our brain health. Let's look at a few other ways we can nourish our mind for continued growth and happiness. 1. Read a Book--Rather than immersing yourself in social media or TV reruns, pick up a physical book and read for at least 30 minutes a day. It improves focus, concentration, and memory as well as reducing stress. 2. Listen to a Podcast--you can listen to a podcast just about anywhere and on about any subject. They can inspire you, inform you and make you laugh. 3. Watch a Documentary--documentaries aren't what they used to be. They can bring the world right into your home and open your mind to new ideas. 4. Learn Something New--it can be scary, but stepping out of your comfort zone is great for your mind. Take your mind off of autopilot with something as simple as taking a new route to work or as exciting as taking a class on a totally foreign topic. 5. Practice Meditation--quieting the noise around us and within us can benefit every part of our being. For as little as 10 minutes a day, you can improve the health of your mind, body and spirit. 6. Say NO to Junk Food--I am talking about the mental junk food we consume. Negative news stories, social media, gossip and incivility. Be highly selective with what you expose yourself to and don't allow yourself to be pulled into the drama. 7. Seek Daily Inspiration--start your day with something inspirational. Something as simple as a quote, a beautiful picture, coffee in your garden, writing in a gratitude journal or quiet time in prayer and reflection. This will keep you grounded and centered for the day and you can draw from that power as your day gets busy. 8. Choose Positivity, Kindness and Love--If it is true that what we think about, we bring about, then our happiness depends on these three things. Negativity and positivity are both contagious so carefully select the people you want in your life--those who uplift you and nourish you-mind, body and spirit! Blessings and Live Well,

Coach Linda
