Turning or Growing Toward the Light

Heliotropic:
adjective.
turning or growing toward the light.
I first heard this word in a post by Elizabeth Gilbert and was instantly drawn to the idea. We see flowers turning toward the light to get the nourishment they need to be healthy and strong. How can we use this same concept to keep ourselves healthy and strong in our mind and spirit?
First, we have to understand what the “light” is. When I think of what nourishes me, I think of things like generosity, kindness, hope, justice, grace, friendliness, love, and joy. What are the words you think of when you light up or see someone enter a room who “lights it up?”
To practice becoming a heliotropic being means cultivating opportunities to be a source of light in your life and others by practicing kindness, forgiveness, friendliness, or any other nourishing light giving feeling or action. Or find a source of light and make it your practice to continue turning towards that light for nourishment until you feel strong enough to be that light for others.
Sending light…
