March Madness

Updated: Apr 13, 2022

March Madness

No, I’m not talking about basketball. I’m talking about the period of time when the winter weather has been with us for long enough and we know it could be with us for a while longer. This can make us feel a little imbalanced during the wild swings in March weather that can affect swings in our body and mind.

How can you encourage a sense of balance in your life through this unpredictable time?

Diet: Warming foods moving towards lighter later in Spring. Focus on warming, grounding food during this time. Soups or stews have double benefit of extra hydration and easy to digest components. Focus on including a variety of color in every meal, all senses are involved in eating and the sight of a colorful plate or bowl can certainly be a mood lifter.

Lifestyle: Mindfulness practices especially awareness methods. “If we are aware of it, we can change it.” This is one of my favorite quotes from a teacher. I can only change my mood, thoughts, and behavior if I am first aware of them. It’s important to take a time out to check in with ourselves and be honest about what we observe. A five-minute check in at the beginning, middle, and end of our day can give us valuable feedback about how we are feeling in our body and mind.

Self-Care: The wind in March can be very drying for our skin. It is the perfect time to practice some self-care such as warm oil massage or a nourishing facial.

Movement: We need both energizing and nourishing exercise to help us cultivate a sense of balance in our physical wellness. Sometimes we have a tendency to stick to one type of exercise, but it is beneficial to both our mind and body to mix it up. Trying a new class challenges our bodies to use different muscle groups and encourages neuroplasticity (the ability of our brain to make new neural connections) which keeps our minds sharp. There are a variety of classes offered at Statera to help you stay energized and sharp through the Spring.

  • Balanced Wellness with Tricia.

  • Yoga 101 with Jodi.

  • Metabolic Resistance Training, Strength/Yoga, Barre/Yoga, Iron Yoga and Yin Yoga with Tobey.

  • Vinyasa Flow Yoga and Yin-Nidra with Tom.

  • Trauma Informed Yoga with Tonia.

  • Pilates Monday with Malia, Sue and Amye.

  • AntiGravity with Malia.

And many more, check our class schedule to find something to encourage balance in your day.

March 20th is the vernal equinox officially marking the beginning of Spring and lasting to the summer solstice in June. This transition period is a time of opportunity for growth and change in every area of your wellbeing.
