About the event
Forest bathing and forest therapy (or shinrin-yoku) broadly means taking in, in all of one’s senses, the forest atmosphere. Not simply a walk in the woods, it is the conscious and contemplative practice of being immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of the forest. It was developed in Japan during the 1980s, and in 1982 Japan made this form of mobile meditation under the canopy of living forests a part of its national health program. Researchers, primarily in Japan and South Korea, have established a growing body of scientific literature on the diverse health benefits.
As we welcome the fall season in our beautiful Iowa, we should remember that we can explore ways to become mindful and to truly appreciate our natural surroundings at any age or ability level. Forest Bathing--mindful movement through nature- is growing in popularity as a way to appreciate nature and reap the health benefits it has to offer.
If you are interested in spending some slow, quiet time walking in Dubuque's treasured Arboretum, we will engage our senses and learn more about how time in nature can heal our minds, bodies and spirits. Join Dr. Linda Peterson, Life and Wellness Coach on Saturday, October 1st at 1pm. We will gather at the Japanese Gardens.
